Mr. Gorbachev,
tear down this wall
— Ronald Reagan

As a country affected by Russia, "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall" – words spoken by President Ronald Reagan – played a very important part in Estonian Independence. Known as the Berlin Wall Speech, given on June 12, 1987 and viewed by the entire world while Regan stood at the Brandenburg Gate. This is one of the reasons we choose to celebrate at The Reagan Library.

The speech included these words:

"There is one sign the Soviets can make that would be unmistakable, that would advance dramatically the cause of freedom and peace. General Secretary Gorbachev, if you seek peace, if you seek prosperity for the Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, if you seek liberalization: Come here to this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, open this gate! Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!"
